Strongly influenced by Caribbean and African art, Mari Hall combines folk art and modern art styles into a unique African American art style with a contemporary touch. Themes are generally about women, the relationship of Spirit to the Creative Self, and the return to a feminine, intuitive and gentle approach to life.
A growing number of people are collecting Mari's artwork while at the same time investing in their cultural heritage. As she gains a wider audience, she presents the creativity of the African American people to the world at large through the visual arts.
Some of the themes of Mari's artwork are:
- the relationship of the human spirit to creativity.
- the need for calming meditative space in modern life.
- the natural creativity of the African people and other people who are part of the African Diaspora.
- the inherent dignity of the many people of the Diaspora
- cross-cultural contemporary issues, such as the ecosystem and our relationship to the planet.
- an allegorical treatment of the Mother and Child theme as relates to nurturing our creative selves and our relationship with each other.

Thank you for visiting! I hope you will be amazed, amused, surprised, and overwhelmingly upbeat about Mari Hall's new direction with her artwork. After many years of exploring painting in various mediums and exhibiting in the US and overseas, I have done what many artists eventually do -- switch mediums.
This newest body of artwork is almost pure digital, and I have to admit, that it is a total blast working in the digital format. I did incorporate some of my drawings that were done by hand using such old fashioned tools like an ink pen, and the artists' favorite, paper!
When working in the digital environment I use all of the knowledge I gained after years of painting plus the additional knowledge I have gained by working with computers for a long time. What I love about using the digital medium, is what it really excels in, and that is precision. That is what makes the digital medium outstanding when used as an artistic expression, is the ability to be so precise in a way that is impossible with paint. It really is not fair to compare the two mediums at all -- they have nothing in common in their construction, but one can use the same principles in application of design and form. So as evidenced in my previous artworks in watercolor and oil, I have focused on beauty of color, beauty of form and love of pattern.
